From my hands to your home.

Thank you for coming to my site and looking at my work.

I love clay, and have since grade school.

I was lucky enough to have supportive arts programs growing up, which both exposed me to the medium, the basics, and the possibilities.

Not long after moving to San Francisco for my day job, I began taking night classes at the City College of San Francisco, where I was given the rare opportunity to help in the studio as a technician. I was lucky for the guidance of Oliverio Quezada, and the other techs/mentors who taught me so much about clay and how to operate a studio.

I take great care in making every piece by hand — from the forms to the glazes. I hope that each piece conveys the thought and care that go into this deliberately slow and intentional process.

I primarily work with commercial cone 6 clay, and occasionally use a wild clay body that I source and process myself. I have also made reduction high-fired porcelain/stoneware (cone 10) work and hope to make more in the future.

All my glazes are formulated and mixed by hand. Most of my pots are wheel thrown, while some are hand-built. Handcrafting means that there will be slight variations in dimensions, weights, shapes, and glaze. No two pieces will be exactly the same. This, to me, is part of what makes pottery so special.

It brings me great joy to make pots that may well outlive me. Each pot, I hope, can brighten someone’s day, even if just for a moment.

I cannot thank you enough for your support.

Cheers,

Joe
